Looking at Industry - EvolutionaryArt

Work by Mike Blow, artist and arts technologist.

"I'm interested in the ergonomic and entertainment qualities of instruments and musical controllers, and in creating new sounds and modes of interaction."

"I sometimes work for artists and design agencies to create pieces that require electronics or programming; sound installations, interactive work or projection pieces.

"I have created aquariums with computer controlled bubbles, swarm simulations for projection in theatre shows, and interactive fans to power wind machines. Here are some of the projects I have been involved in over the last few years."

Mikes solo work is concerned with the relationship between sound, space and the imaginary. From research, he is interested in the presentation of sound as a medium, its relationship to physical and non-physical objects, and its power to engage people in an emotional way through memory or by evocation.

He curated the sound art show 'Sonic Art' in the Brighton Festival Fringe 2009, and is a regular collaborator with experimental band Spacedog and eco-art group Circus Kinetica. After graduating from Sussex University with an MSc in Evolutionary and Adaptive Systems in 2004, he worked for a year at the University of Hertfordshire as a robotics researcher, and is currently a lecturer in Digital Art at Brighton University and work as an arts technologist."

In the 'Contact' section of the site:

"If you have a question about any of my work, or if you'd like to collaborate, exhibit a piece or commission a new one, please get in touch."

He appears to be extremely diverse in the people he chooses to work with. Definitely worth getting in touch, even if its to ask about his situation within industry and his pathway through to where he is at this current space in time.
His work and attitude appear to be one of modernism and progression, using new technology to evoke emotional responses in participants and observers. Highly intelligent and a brilliant website.
